Maximum cashout is the most a casino lets you withdraw from bonus-related winnings. The same rule may be called max cashout, a bonus cashout cap or a bonus withdrawal cap. Your bonus wallet might show NZ$500, but the promotion may let you keep only NZ$100. Check which funds the cap covers and when it applies.
| Limit type | Example clause | Maximum bonus payout |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed cashout cap | Maximum cashout NZ$100 | NZ$100 |
| Bonus-multiplier cap | 5× a NZ$40 bonus | NZ$200 |
| Deposit-multiplier cap | 10× a NZ$20 deposit | NZ$200 |
| Free-spins winnings cap | NZ$25 total from free spins | NZ$25 |
Example: A no-deposit bonus has a NZ$100 cashout cap. You win NZ$450. If the terms forfeit anything above the limit, you can withdraw at most NZ$100; the other NZ$350 is cancelled, not paid later.
How Does Maximum Cashout Work?
Casinos may place free spins, promotional credit and the resulting winnings in a restricted bonus balance. Until the conditions are met, that balance is not the same as withdrawable cash in a real-money wallet.
Some overseas bonuses require wagering, also called playthrough or rollover: a set amount of qualifying bets before withdrawal. A maximum cashout limit can still apply after wagering is finished. Other promotions apply the cap when free spins end or at the first withdrawal request. Those are different moments, particularly if excess winnings are forfeited.

A cashable bonus can permit withdrawal of promotional credit under its terms. A sticky (non-cashable) bonus does not let you withdraw the bonus credit itself. Your own deposit should not be treated as bonus winnings. If the cashier combines balances, request a breakdown of deposited, bonus and withdrawable funds.
How to Calculate a Maximum Cashout Limit
For a multiplier limit, identify whether it applies to the bonus amount or the original deposit.
With a fixed cap, the amount payable is no more than the smaller of your eligible bonus winnings and the cashout limit. The terms determine when excess winnings are removed and whether the original bonus credit is excluded.
Combined limits can be stricter than they look. “NZ$150 or 5× the bonus, whichever is lower” caps a NZ$40 bonus at NZ$150, not NZ$200. A separate maximum win per spin can restrict a single slot result before the overall cap applies.
If a cap is quoted in another currency, check the NZD conversion and any cashier fees. Both can change the amount that reaches your account.
Which Types of Casino Bonuses Have Cashout Caps?

No-deposit bonuses and free spins may cap winnings separately. Even within one welcome offer, free-spin winnings and deposit-match winnings can be subject to different limits.
A deposit match, welcome bonus or reload bonus can also have a cashout cap. A 100% match and its maximum bonus amount determine how much bonus credit you receive, not how much you may withdraw.
Cashback (lossback), VIP and loyalty rewards, tournament prizes and promo-code offers may use other payout rules. “Wager-free” does not necessarily mean “no cashout cap”. “No max cashout” removes that ceiling only; identity checks and other lawful withdrawal conditions can still apply.
Is a Higher Cashout Cap Always Better?
A higher cap lets you keep more of a large bonus win, but it does not change the odds of the game. A NZ$25 free-spins win fits under both a NZ$50 and a NZ$200 limit; a NZ$150 win exceeds the first cap.

Consider the bonus expiry, eligible games, permitted playthrough and treatment of excess winnings. A cap removes some upside from unusually large results, which can lower a promotion's expected value (EV). A generous-looking match is not automatically a better offer. Do not raise your spending limit to satisfy bonus conditions.
Maximum Cashout vs Other Bonus Limits
| Rule | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Maximum cashout / win cap | How much bonus-related value may be kept or converted. “Maximum win” can mean a different game-level limit, so check its definition. |
| Wagering requirement | The qualifying betting turnover required before promotional funds or winnings may be withdrawn, where that condition is permitted. |
| Maximum bet rule | The highest stake allowed while a particular bonus is active; breaching it may affect eligibility. |
| Maximum bonus amount | The maximum promotional credit awarded, often subject to a minimum deposit. |
| Withdrawal limit | An account-level or cashier limit per payment, day or period, where lawful; it is not necessarily a forfeiture of winnings. |
Under overseas-style terms, 20× bonus-only wagering on NZ$50 means NZ$1,000 in qualifying bets. At 20× deposit plus bonus, with a NZ$50 deposit and NZ$50 bonus, it means NZ$2,000. A separate 5× bonus cashout cap would limit bonus payouts to NZ$250. Such examples do not establish which wagering conditions New Zealand licensees may use.
Game contribution determines which stakes count towards wagering. An offer might count eligible slots at 100% but blackjack, roulette or live casino games at less, while excluding progressive jackpots, high-volatility slots or bonus buys. Return to player (RTP) and house edge describe theoretical long-run returns; volatility describes swings in results. None changes the bonus cashout ceiling.
What to Check Before Accepting a Casino Bonus
- Find the clause. Read the promotion, bonus terms and payment policy. Search for “maximum cashout”, “maximum conversion”, “bonus winnings”, “maximum withdrawal” and “forfeiture”.
- Identify the scope. Does the cap cover free spins, one game or every promotional wallet? Are deposits and cash winnings tracked separately? Does bonus-first versus real-money-first play affect the calculation?
- Check the timing. Does the cap apply after free spins, after wagering or on withdrawal? Will an early cashout cancel remaining bonus funds or void excess winnings?
- Check eligibility. Confirm opt-in, minimum deposit, accepted payment methods, NZ eligibility, eligible games, maximum bet, household restrictions and bonus-abuse provisions. A promo code does not override the terms.
- Check expiry and payout rules. Review the bonus deadline, withdrawal method and know your customer (KYC) checks. Ask support about unclear wording before opting in; save the conditions and transaction history.
Walk-away test: If support cannot say what happens to NZ$500 of bonus winnings under a NZ$100 cap, or whether your deposit is separate, the advertised payout is too unclear to rely on.
What New Zealand Players Should Know
Overseas bonus practices do not determine New Zealand law. Regulation 13 of the Online Casino Gambling Regulations 2026 requires operators covered by the regime to allow withdrawal of winnings resulting from a promotional inducement without making customers gamble those winnings again. It also requires clear terms, a distinction between promotional and uncommitted funds, and at least 60 days to fulfil conditions for a payout from an inducement.

Regulation 13 also limits the value of the inducement: up to NZ$100 without a spending requirement, or the lower of NZ$100 and 200% of the original deposit or bet where spending is required. That is a bonus-value limit, not a universal NZ$100 winnings cashout cap. Regulation 21 protects withdrawals of uncommitted customer funds against unjustly burdensome conditions.
As of October 2026, the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 is in force, with the licensing regime expected to become fully operational in 2027. Winning the licence auction only grants the right to apply; it does not confer a licence. The Department of Internal Affairs publishes licensing updates. An overseas licence is not proof of compliance with New Zealand requirements.
Maximum Cashout FAQs
Can I withdraw more than the maximum cashout later?
Not when the terms permanently forfeit winnings above the cap. A daily or monthly cashier withdrawal limit is different: it may split a payable amount into instalments without cancelling it.
Does a maximum cashout apply to my deposited money?
Do not assume it does. Your deposit, uncommitted cash and promotional winnings need to be accounted for separately, subject to applicable law. If the cashier shows only one balance, request a breakdown identifying which wallet funded the bets.
Does 10× maximum cashout mean 10× wagering?
No. “10× maximum cashout” limits the amount payable from a specified bonus or deposit basis. “10× wagering” sets the volume of bets required where wagering is allowed. Ask which amount the multiplier refers to.
Can free spins or a jackpot exceed the limit?
Yes, the result displayed by a slot can exceed the promotion's cap. The amount paid may still be lower. Jackpot games may also be excluded, or an offer may impose a separate win limit per spin. Check the game rules and bonus clause together.
Does “no maximum cashout” mean I can cash out immediately?
No. The phrase removes only the bonus-specific ceiling. Valid identity checks, payment verification, processing periods and any lawful remaining conditions may still apply.
What if a casino removes winnings I believe were mine?
Keep the offer terms, bet history, transaction records and messages from support. Ask the casino for the clause and calculation used to remove the funds. If its complaints process does not resolve the dispute, check which regulator has jurisdiction.
